Jake Bassen, MA, LMFT

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Life comes with many challenges and it is normal to feel overwhelmed when navigating anxiety, fear, or loss. One of the most important resources we have to help us cope is connection with others, ideally with someone we can trust to truly listen and help guide us in taking steps forward when we feel most uncertain. This is the heart of work with my clients. I strive to be a supportive guide in untangling the areas in which you may feel deeply stuck, discouraged, or may simply wish to see continued growth. First and foremost, I view you as the expert on your own experience, as nobody else will be more familiar with both your areas of resilience and your areas of struggle.

In addition to my client-centered, attachment-focused foundation as a therapist, I find techniques from approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), emotionally focused therapy (EFT), and internal family systems to be incredibly useful in my work with clients. I also often incorporate relevant knowledge about the brain as it relates to emotional and psychological challenges you may be experiencing.

I have experience working with individuals dealing with a wide variety of concerns including generalized anxiety, social and performance anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, and trauma. Above all, I am here to support you as we work together to address your most important needs and challenges. I look forward to meeting and supporting you in this time of need.

I hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from George Fox University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Oregon State University.

In my free time, I enjoy composing and producing original music, seeing live music in the Portland area, and spending quality time with my friends, family, and partner.
